Course Content

The regulations relating to appliance safety tell us that a person performing PAT testing must be competent to do so. This PAT test course ensures that all successful candidates are able to perform their testing in a competent way.

With practical learning alongside theoretical, there are lots of opportunities to practice using PAT equipment and learning to PAT test under the guidance and supervision of an experienced trainer. The full course will look at and study the following aspects of PAT testing:

• Principles of Electricity
• Classification of Appliances
• Electrical Dangers
• Legal Requirements
• IEE Code of Practice
• Recording Results
• How to use a PAT Tester

PAT Examination and Certification

Learners will need to pass the 20 question, on book exam and will be closely monitored to ensure they fully understand the subject; they will then receive a Certificate of Competence if they successfully pass the exam and the course as a whole.

PAT Duration and Suitability

The portable appliance testing training runs from 9.00-16.00 and is one day long in total. It is ideally suited to anyone who maintains electrical appliances in a work environment, anyone wanting to begin their electrical career or even those experienced PAT testers needing a refresher.

It is not essential to have previous electrical qualifications to complete the PAT course and once completed, learners could continue with further electrical courses if required.

PAT Reading Material

There are no formal reading requirements, however learners are strongly advised to purchase a copy of the IEE Code of Practice.
